Riviera Maya Jazz Festival

International jazz legends will converge on the white sandy beaches of Playa del Carmen in the Riviera Maya November 25 to 28 for the seventh annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, one of the premiere music events in the Americas.

Participating musicians include John Scofield, Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin and Wayne Shorter. Two of Beard's albums have been elected top-ten jazz albums by Jazziz Magazine Critics. Also appearing is jazz legend Spyro Gyra, whose 2001 In Modern Times album stayed on the Billboard charts for 64 weeks. Brazilian icon Sergio Mendes will present his new album, Encanto, at the festival.

Also heating up Playa del Carmen will be Pat Martino, considered one of the best jazz guitarists of all time. Al Jarreau, the only musician in history to ever win three Grammys in three different categories and who has recorded more than a dozen albums in the past 30 years, will perform, as will music legend Herbie Hancock, who will perform an array of musical genres such as jazz, R&B, acoustic and electric.

The festival will also focus on Mexican talent, some of whose music can be downloaded free off the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival's Facebook site.

In addition to great music, festival-goers will be able to enjoy the Riviera Maya's many attractions, including an 81-mile stretch of uncrowded Caribbean coastline, a vast network of underground rivers and wells (cenotes) unique in the world, eco-archeological parks, golf courses, spas, shopping, gourmet dining and a range of accommodations to suit every lifestyle and budget. It is also home to many of Mexico's most significant Mayan archeological sites, including Tulum and Cobá.
